波士顿西郊“全美最安全城市”牛顿，劳丽和安迪·巴伯原本平静祥和的家庭生活，因为爱子雅各布被控谋杀同学而从此陷入一片混乱。
剧集改编自美国罪案小说家威廉·蓝迪（William Landay）2012年同名畅销作《永远没有的真相（Defending Jacob）》，由《美国队长》克里斯·埃文斯、《唐顿庄园》米歇尔·道克瑞和《小丑回魂》杰登·马泰尔领衔主演。
